2014-15 RESULTS SUMMARY
December 6th vs Bradford (boxscore)
Despite 8 new wrestlers starting for Park, including 4 wrestling their first match ever, Park won 5 of the 12 matches contested against Bradford before eventually falling 48-28. Park was down 24-0 before starting a comeback. Charlie Long(170) won by forfeit. Austin Rosa(182) then won an 11-3 major decison to bring the score to 24-10. TJ McWhorter(195) and Ivan Huizar(220) then followed with pins to make it 24-22. However, Park couldn't keep the momentum and lost some close matches before Bradford put the dual away. Jacob Rodriquez(132) closed out the night with a pin for Park.
December 6th at Nicolet Knight Invitational
Led by Anthony Jardina's 2nd place finish, the Panthers finished 8th at the Nicolet Knight Invite. Jardina(4-2) finished the day 4-1 with his only loss coming to champion Sean Bennedict from Middleton. Jardina beat the #1 seed James Funk from Hartford 3-2 in overtime. Finishing 3rd for Park were Austin Rosa at 182 lbs., and Charlie Long at 170 lbs. Rosa(4-2) started the day strong going 3-0 and then losing a close decision to Nicolet's Chris Azcueta 6-4 and then losing to 2x State Champ Beau Breske from Hartford. Long(4-2) had a successful day notching a technical fall victory, and win by pin, and and an overtime win as well. TJ McWhorter finished the day with 3 wins to improve to 4-2 on the year.
December 11th at Case (boxscore)
The Panthers beat crosstown rival Case by a score of 50-29 despite giving up 3 forfeits. Charlie Long got the ball rolling by using an array of tilts and arm bars before securing a pin to start off the night at 160 lbs to give Park a 6-0 lead. Long is now 5-2 on the year. At 170 Raul Munoz came from behind to score an 11-8 decison over Bryce Lepzig to make it 9-0 Park. It was Munoz' first win of the year. At 182 Austin Rosa scrambled with Case's Reid Hammond for 6 minutes but wasn't able to come up with the victory giving Case it's first win of the night. Rosa falls to 4-3. At 195 freshman Valentino Munoz earned his first ever victory by fall, pinning Dylan Radwill in 1:58 to give Park a 15-5 lead. After a Park forfeit at 220, Anthony Jardina got the Panthers back on track with a pin at 285 to make the score 21-11. Jardina improves to 5-2. At 106, 113, and 120, the young Panthers kept the momentum going. 106 lb Eric Martinez earned his first victory with a pin in 1:20 making it 27-11. At 113 Park's Ethan Weber earned a forfeit victory making it 33-11 Park. Ben Sheber then also joined in with a pin making the score 39-11 with only 5 matches to go. Case then reeled off 3 consecutive wins, 1 by pin and 2 by forfeit to make the score 39-29. Park however would not be denied the victory. Howard Greene locked up the victory with a dominating 20-3 technical fall victory at 145 to make the score 44-29. Cheryron Brumfield put the exclamation point on the night by taking his opponent down on a reshot straight to his back with 7 seconds left in the first period and getting a fall to make the final score 50-29.
December 18th vs Indian Trails(boxscore)
It was all Park as the Panther wrestling team beat Indian Trails Academy at Park 43-23. Park improves to 2-1 in the SEC on the year. The match started at 285 lbs where Park's Anthony Jardina improved to 6-2 on the season with a one-sided 10-3 decision to the get Panthers on the board first 3-0. After ITA forfeited the next 2 weight classes to give Park a 15-0 lead, Ben Scheber kept the pressuer on ITA by getting a 1st period pin to make the score 21-0 in favor of Park. Alphonso Gonzalez lost a tough 12-5 decision at 126 against a more experienced wrestler and Park forfeited 132 to make the score 21-9. At 138 lbs, Freshman Vincent Rangel held his own against one of ITA's better wrestlers keeping it to a minor decision, making the score 21-12. At 145 lbs, Howard Greene had a big pin for Park to get the momentum back and make the score 27-12. AT 152 lbs, a very aggresive Cheryron Brumfield won a hard fought 6-4 overtime decision to make the score 30-12 and put Park on the brink of notching their 2nd SEC victory. At 160, Louie Attala was overmatched and lost 19-4 to make the score 30-17. With 4 matches left, Park poured it on. At 170 lbs, Charlie Long won 5-2 improving to 6-2. At 182, Austin Rosa(5-3) was dominant with a 17-3 win to secure the win. Austin Decker(1-0) wrestled his first match of the year and won it with a pin to end the Park scoring on the night and making it 43-17. Park forfeited the 220 lb weight class to make the final score 43-23.
Dec 19th & 20th at Ed Stech Invite
The Panthers were led by Austin Rosa's 4th place finish at the tournament. Six of Park's wrestlers advanced to the second day of competition, with only Rosa making it to the placement round. By going 4-2 at the tournament, Rosa improved his record to 9-5 on the year. Rosa started the tournament with a technical fall victory before losing in the quarterfinals. From there he won 3 straight matches, including an overtime sudden victory over Ben Michalowski from Waterford and a win over #5 ranked Brandon Dreissen from West Allis Central by a score of 10-8 that wasn't as close as the score indicates. Rosa lost his 3rd place match to Matt Patterson from Brookfield Central, the same wrestler he lost to in the quarterfinals. The Panthers finished 18th as a team.
Dec 29th & 30th at Oshkosh On The Water
Austin Rosa at 182 lbs and Anthony Jardian at 285 lbs led the way for Park at the monstrous 64 team Oshkosh On The Water Classic hosted at the UW-Oshkosh Kolf Center. Both wrestlers went 4-2 in the tournament, making it to the 2nd day of the tournament. Rosa had 3 pins in the tournament before being eliminated 1 match from placing at the prestigious event. Rosa improved his record to 13-7 on the year. Jardina also was one match from placing, notching 1 pin in the tournament. Jardina improved to 11-6 on the year. Austin Decker went 3-2 in the tournament and Rudy Munoz, Charlie Long, and Cheryron Brumfield each went 2-2.
Jan 10th at Sauk Prairie
Luke Kinsley, Charlie Long, Austin Rosa, and Anthony Jardina each went 3-2 at the tough Sauk Prairie Invite. Kinsley finished 7th at 132 lbs in his first action of the season. Wrestling mostly close matches all day, Luke won 1 match by pin and had 2 victories in sudden victory. One of his loses was 1-0. Charlie Long won his first round match 10-4 before falling in the quarterfinals. He won his next 2 matches in the wrestlebacks 19-7 and 4-2, respectively, before falling in the 5th place match. Austin Rosa started the day with a pin before falling in OT in the quarterfinals. He then won his next 2 matches before losing the 5th place match 3-1. Anthony Jardina had 3 pins on the day on his way to a 7th place finish. Jardina started the day with a pin before losing in the quarters. He won his next match by fall, then lost in the consolation semis before pinning his final opponent of the day.
Jan 15th vs Oak Creek((boxscore)
The inexperienced Panthers couldn't overcome the fire power of defending confernce champ Oak Creek losing 61-12. Park only picked up 3 wins on the night, 1 of them by forfeit. Charlie Long improved to 13-8 and 4-0 in SEC duals by winning a 5-2 decison over Emelio Paez at 160lbs. Long controlled the entire match only giving up 2 escapes. Anthony Jardina improved to 15-8 on the campaign by winning a 3-0 decison over Nick Gottfried. Jardina is now 3-1 in the SEC. Jardina used a 2nd period escape and a reversal in the 3rd period to notch the win. The other victory for Park came on a forfeit victory for Myles Brown at 132.
Jan 17th at Badger Invite
Park finished in 9th place at the Badger Invite at Lake Geneva Badger High School. Cheryron Brumfield led the charge by taking 3rd place at 152 lbs, going 3-2 on the day with 1 pin and another victory by technical fall. Austin Rosa(182 lbs), Austin Decker(195 lbs), and Anthony Jardina(285 lbs) all finished 5th at the scramble event. Rosa fell in his first match of the day, but went on to win his final 3 matches to cap his day. Rosa improves to 19-11 on the year. Decker went 2-2 on the day, including winning by pin in his final match of the day. Jardina improved to 18-9 for the year by going 3-1 on the day. Jacob Rodriguez(126 lbs), Luke Kinsley(\(\(\(\(\(\(132 lbs)and Rudy Munoz(170 lbs) also won 2 matches on the day.
Jan 22nd at Tremper(boxscore)
The Panthers took their lumps against a more experienced team losing 57-13 at Tremper. The lone Panther victories came from Luke Kinsley at 132 lbs, Austin Decker at 195 lbs, and Anthony Jardina at 285 lbs. Kinsley dominated his opponent winning a 12-3 major decision while evening his record to 6-6 on the year. Decker waon his match in overtime by a 5-4 decision and also evening his record at 9-9. Anthony Jardina has been rolling along lately and Thursday was no different as he picked up another pin on the season improving his record to 19-9.
Jan 29th vs Franklin
Park lost 43-24 to Franklin, winning 5 matches on the night. Park jumped out to an early 12-0 lead with forfeit victories by Eric Rodriguez and Ethan Weaver at 106 and 113, respectively. Park won again at 126 lbs as Jacob Rodriguez won a 11-4 decision to improve to 4-2 on the season. Cheryron Brumfield won a hard fought match by a score of 7-3. Brumfield improved his record on the year to 9-7. Austin Rosa recieved a forfeit victory after Franklin moved their man a weight class. With the win, Rosa improves to 20-12 on the year.
Feb 7th at SEC Tournament
Park placed 7th in the tournament led by Luke Kinsley who placed 2nd at 132 lbs. The day started with Kinsley, who was the 7th seed, pinning the #2 seed Lukeus Perez from Horlick. He then beat Josiah Wolf from Oak Creek 6-2 in the semi's. Luke had trouble getting his offense going in the finals match and lost to #1 seed Christian Ruiz from ITA 7-3. Cheryron Brumfield(152 lbs) finished in 3rd place for the Panthers. He won his opening match by a score of 8-5, a misleading score as Brumfield was constantly pressuring his opponent and had at least 4 takedowns not count because of being out of bounds. In the semi's Brumfield was pinned in the 1st period. In the 3rd place match Brumfield battled back from a first period deficit of 9-2 and launched a takedown clinic, prevailing 17-14 over Riley Christensen from Bradford. Austin Decker(195 lbs)finished in 3rd place, beating Alex Reil from Franklin 4-3 with a late takedown in the 3rd period to get the win. Finishing 4th for Park was Charlie Long(160), Austin Rosa(182) and Anthony Jardina(285)
Feb 14th at Regionals
Park advanced 6 wrestlers to Sectionals. Eric Rodriguez place 4th place at 106 lbs. Rodriguez opened the day with a technical fall victory over Jacob Whited from Burlington, winning 22-4. Rodriguez would fall in his next 2 bouts but still qualified because of his victory of Whited. Jacob Rodriguez placed 3rd on the day at 126 lbs, winning 2 of his matches by fall. Rodriguez opened up with a pin in his first match. In his semifinal match, Rodriguez lost to Jacob Lawson of Case. In his 3rd place match, Jacob beat Brayton Pestka of Horlick in a rematch from last weeks conference tournament. The result was the same with Rodriguez pinning Pestka. At 132 lbs, Luke Kinsley placed 3rd. He opened the day with a major decision victory before losing in the semi's to Burlington State Champion Josh Bird. In the 3rd place match Kinsley notched another pin. In the 2nd place wrestleback Kinsley had trouble getting his offense going once again against Christian Ruiz of Kenosha Indian Trails and lost a heart breaking overtime match 2-1. Charlie Long place 4th at 160 lbs. Long beat his first opponent by a 15-6 major decison before losing to #2 ranked Oscar Ramos of Kenosha Bradford. Long lost his 3rd place match but still advanced to next weekend. At 182 lbs, Austin Rosa lost a tough match to Reid Hammond of Case to open the day. He then won his next match in the wrestle backs to force a 4th place match, in which Rosa lost a close 3-1 decision to finish in 5th place. Rosa will advance to next weekend however as the Union Grove wrestler in his bracket that placed 3rd was hurt and will not be able to continue in the State Tournament Series. Austin Decker place 4th on day at 195 lbs. Decker recieved a bye in his first match and fell in the next 2, but still advanced to Burlington next weekend.
Feb 21st at Sectionals
It was a disappointing day for the Panthers as nobody advanced to the State meet in Madison, being held Thursday thru Saturday. Eric Rodrigurez(106), Charlie Long(160), Austin Rosa(182), and Austin Decker(195) each were eliminated after losing their first round match. Jacob Rodriguez recieved a bye in his first round match and advanced to the semifinals. He then lost to Jared Bird of Burlington and then lost to nemesis Jacob Lawson of Case in the 3rd place match. Luke Kinsley(132) dominated his first match of the day before losing to State Champion Josh Bird of Burlington in the semi's. In the 3rd place match, Kinsley was winning most of the match against Christian Ruiz of Indian Trails, but gave up a takedown with about 30 seconds left in the match and lost 7-6.
