Thursday, Dec. 4th at Tremper
The P/H team went to Tremper shorthanded and came out of the dual with 2 wins. With only 7 wrestlers competing, the dual was never going to be doubt. However, senior Teddy Schwandt started off his final year with a bang. At 165 lbs, Schwandt started off slow but then turned it on with a 3rd period pin over Robbie Gallagher. Gallagher had beaten Teddy 4x last season. At 215 lbs, senior Damian Vaughn started off his year on the right foot as well. Racing out to a 10-1 lead after the 1st period, he controled the match and got the major decision 17-5. The final score of the dual meet was 65-10.
Saturday, Dec. 6th at Girls Kaufmann Scramble
The girls went to Nicolet HS for the Kaufmann open and came home with some hardware. Leading the way for the girls were April Steil at 107 lbs. and Kari Sunde-Hogy at 165 lbs., both winning their weight class. April didn't go past the first period on the day with 2 pins and is now 2-0 on the season. Sophomore Kari Sunde-Hogy also won in similar dominant fashion, pinning both her opponents in under a minute to go 2-0 on the day. It was Kari's first tournament championship. Also placing for the P/H girls team, Celia Harrington took 2nd place on the day going 3-1 on the day with 2 pins and a tech fall.
Saturday, Dec. 6th Boys Kaufmann Scramble
The boys went to the Kaufmann Scramble and finished 12th out of 16 teams. For the boys, Teddy Schwandt and Damian Vaughn led the way. at 165 lbs, Teddy Schwandt won his first 3 matches by fall before falling in the semi's to returning State Finalist Declan Koch of Neenah. In the 3rd place match, in a rematch of Thursday night's opening dual, Teddy faced off against Robbie Gallagher. Teddy beat him Thursday, and this time Gallagher came out on top. Teddy is now 4-2 on the year. Senior Damian Vaughn had 2 major decisons on the day as he went 2-2. For the season Vaughn is 3-2 on the year. Patricio Ibarra went 3-2 on the day at 285 lbs. After dropping his first 2 matchs, he came back and pinned his next 3 opponents to improve to 3-3 on the year. At 144 lbs, Ben Fillner went 2-2 with 2 pins to improve to 2-3 on the year.
Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Waterford Girls Invite
Leading the way for with 2nd place finishes for the P/H team were Ella Langner, Dailynn Finley, and Kari Sunde-Hogy. Sophomore Langner started off her day strong with 2 pins in her first 2 matches before falling in her final round match. It's Ella's highest finish yet as P/H wrestler. Fellow sophomore Dailynn Finley started her tournament with a 3rd period pin, but fell in here 2nd round match. She closed out the day with a fall early in the 2nd period to secure 2nd place. Kari Sunde-Hogy had to battle back after suffering a loss in the first round. She bounced back and pinned her next two opponents in the first period to get the silver. As a team, the P/H team finished 4th out of 17 teams.
Thursday, Dec. 11 at Franklin
The Park/Horlick team went into Franklin for perhaps the last time as a conference foe and took the loss 60-15. Only 7 wrestlers suited up for the team. The dual started at 285lbs, where after countless blood time delays, Patricio Ibarra was able to secure a 3rd period pin to start the night off. The P/H team would not get back on the board until 165 lbs when senior Teddy Schwandt stepped on the mat. Controlling almost the entire match, Schwandt pulled out a 12-7 win to improve to 5-2 on the year. The final victory for Park/Horlick came at 215 lbs where Damian Vaughn got the pin to finish the scoring on the night.
Friday, Dec. 12 at West Allis Central Girls Invite
A shorthanded girls team traveled north for the first ever West Allis Central and finished in 10th place out of 24 teams. Leading the charge for the ladies was Celia Harrington at 100 lbs and Kari Sunde-Hogy at 165 lbs. Finishing in 2nd place, Celia dominated her first 3 opponents, pinning them all in the first period. In the finals, she was defeated by E'mariah Watts of Bradford. It's Celia's second 2nd place finish this season. She is now 6-5 on the season. Sunde-Hogy finished 3rd in the 165 lb bracket. After winning her first round match by fall, she lost in the semi's. She fought her way back through the wrestlebacks with 2 pins to finish in the top 3.
Saturday, Dec. 13 at Whitewater Invite
Traveling to Whitewater, the P/H team finished in 9th place of the Whitewater Invite with only 6 wrestlers. The top finisher for the team for the 2nd year in a row was senior Teddy Schwandt at 165 lbs. Dominating for the first 4 rounds, Teddy advanced with a pin in each round. In the finals, he face Michael Kowalski of Portage. After being down early, Teddy pulled ahead late in the 2nd period but in the end he wasn't able to hold on and pull out the victory. Teddy is now 9-3 on the season. At 144 lbs, Ben Fillner finished 4th. After winning his first match in a tense 11-10 decision, Ben found himself down big in his second match before storming back and getting a huge 3rd period pin. He easily won his 3rd match with another fall. Fillner lost his final 2 matches to finish 3-2 on the day and is now 5-6 on the season.
Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Boys Greenfield Quadrangular
The P/H boys went into the quadrangular not looking to win duals because of not having a full team but looking to get good individual results and continue improving as the season moves forward. Going 3-0 on the night were seniors Teddy Schwandt at 165 lbs and Damian Vaughn at 215 lbs. Heavyweight junior Patricio Ibarra went 2-1 on the evening. The boys lost to West Allis Central 58-24, Greendale 71-12, and Greenfield 63-18
Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Girls Greenfield Quadrangular
The girls came away with their first ever dual meet wins at the Greenfield Quadrangular. On the night the girls beat Greendale 48-6 and Greenfield 47-24. The took the loss to West Allis Central in a close battle by a score of 29-24. Going 3-0 on the night was Junior Celia Harrington at 100 lbs, and sophomores April Steil at 107 lbs and Kari Sund-Hogy at 165 lbs. Going 2-1 on the night were Eymi Medina at 114 lbs, Camila Guereca at 138 lbs, Dailynn Finley at 145 lbs, Ella Langer at 152 lbs, and Madison Shore at 235 lbs.
Saturday, Dec. 20 at Badger State Invite
Against some very tough competition, 6 of the P/H boys traveled to Madison for the Badger State Invite. Teddy Schwandt won his first 2 matches of the tournament before losing his next 2 and was eliminated from competition. At 285 lbs, Patricio Ibarra also won 2 matches on the day. The P/H boys had no placers at the tournament.
Saturday, Dec. 20 at Girls Badger State Invite
Kari Sunde-Hogy at 165 lbs led the way for the P/H Girls team with a 3rd place finish at the 51-team Badger State Invite. Kari started the day with 2 pins before falling in the quarterfinals. In the wrestlebacks she pinned her next 2 opponents to finish in 3rd place. No other girls placed for the girls team. Alexandrea Mares at 185 lbs, April Steil at 107 lbs, and Elliot Swiderski at 132 lbs each won a match on the day. The girls finished in 23rd place as a team.
Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Waukesha West Girls Holiday Invite
The girls team traveled to Waukesha for the Waukesha West Holiday Invite. The high placer for the girls on the day was Eymi Medina who took 3rd place. Also placing for the girls was Kari Sunde-Hogy at 165 lbs, and Celia Harrington took 6th place at 100 lbs. April Steil at 114 lbs and Ella Langer at 152 lbs also won a match on the day.
Thursday, Jan 8 at SEC Triangular
The boys team headed to Indian Trail HS for an SEC battle with ITA and Bradford. The P/H boys came away with their first SEC win of the year. In the first dual of the night, P/H took on Indian Trail. The P/H team fell 59-18, but 4 individuals won their match. At 126 lbs, Esga Fuentes got his first SEC victory of the year making quick work of Jonathon Pereida with a first period pin. Laurence Miller notched the next victory of the dual for the P/H team with an 8-2 decision at 157 lbs, his first time wrestling the weight this year. At 165 lbs, Teddy Schwandt continued his winning ways with another 1st period pin. At 215 lbs, Damian Vaughn continued his strong season by coming away with a hard fought 14-7 decision. In the 2nd dual meet of the night, it started off at 106 where there was a double forfeit. At 113 lbs, Zaidon Carly took a forfeit win to put P/H up 6-0. At 120 lbs there was no match. At 126 lb and 132 lb Esgar Fuentes and Jaime Urquizo each received forfeits, respectively. There was no match at 138 lbs. At 144 lbs, Ben Fillner also received a forfeit. The P/H lead was 24-0. At 150 lbs, Noah Murry lost moving the dual to 157 lb and senior Laurence Miller. Falling behind early, Miller battled back and tied the match in the 3rd period sending it to overtime. In overtime Miller was able to take down Ismail Mian and put him on his back and get the fall making the team score 30-6. At 165 lbs, Teddy Schwandt does was Teddy Schwant does and picked up another pin for the P/H team boosting the lead to 36-6. After giving up a forfeit at 175 lbs, P/H lost the matches at 190 lbs and 215 lbs bringing the team score to 36-24. To close out the dual, junior Patricio Ibarra got a 1st period pin to end the evening with a 42-24 victory for the P/H boys.
Thursday, Jan. 8 at SEC Triangular
The girls traveled to Kenosha for their first ever SEC dual meets and they came away with the programs first ever conference win. Starting the night vs Indian Trail, the girls picked up victories by Celia Harrington(100 lbs), April Steil(114 lbs), Kari Sunde-Hogy(165 lbs) and Destiny Schuster(185 lbs) but in the end ITA had more firepower and won the dual meet 30-24. Going up against Bradford, led by April Steil's pin at 114 lbs, the Girls P/H team won 36-30 for their first conference victory. Also picking up wins in the dual meet were Dailynn Finley(138 lbs), Ella Langer(145 lbs), Kari Sunde-Hogy(165 lbs), Destiny Schuster(185 lbs), and Celia Harrington(100 lbs).
Saturday, Jan. 10 at Bradford Invite
The boys had several strong performances at the P/H boys finished 6th out of 16 teams. Leading the way were seniors Teddy Schwandt at 165 lbs and Damian Vaughn at 215 lbs who each finished 2nd on the day. Both wrestlers easily made the finals. Schwandt rolled into the final with a tech fall and 3 pins. Vaughn got there by pinning his first 4 opponents. In the finals Schwandt lost to Demacio Trujillo of St. Cats and Vaughn was bested by Anthony Wilson of Bradford. At 126 lbs, Esgar Fuentes took 3rd on the day going 3-2 with 2 pins and tech fall. Senior Laurence Miller took 3rd going 4-1 on the day in his first tournament wrestling at 157 lbs after wrestling at 175 lbs to open his season.
Saturday, Jan. 10 at Bradford Girls Invite
Sophomore Kari Sunde-Hogy once again led the way for the P/H girls at the Bradford Girls Invite by winning the Championship. Dominating her 165 lbs opponents all day she left the tournament going 5-0 and collecting 4 more pins on the year. Finishing the day in 3rd place was Celia Harrington at 100 lbs and Madison Shore at 235 lbs. Harrington had 3 pins on the day. Destiny Schuster finished 4th at 185 lbs which included getting her first career pin.
Thursday, January 15 at Case
In a crosstown battle the Eagles came out on top 48-29 to beat the P/H team for the 4th consecutive year. Starting at 165 lbs, senior Teddy Schwandt easily outclassed his opponent winning by tech fall to start the night 5-0 in favor of P/H. Case won at 175 lbs by forfeit and at 190 by pin. Damian Vaughn won by forfeit at 215 lbs making the score 12-11 in favor of Case after the first 4 matches. Case won the next 2 weights by pin and forfeit giving them a 24-11 lead before 113 lb Zaidon Carley stepped on the mat to get a pin bringing the score to 24-17. After a doulbe forfeit at 120 lbs, Esgar Fuentes was leading most of his match but couldn't hold on and was pinned. At 132 lbs, senior Jaime Urquizo got a big pin to keep P/H in the match and making the score 30-23 still in favor of Case. Case however would put out any hope of a P/H victory by collecting pins in the next 3 matches. The night was closed out by senior Laurence Miller getting a pin to close out the dual at 48-29.
Saturday, January 17 at Milwaukee Reagan Super Husky Ladies Invite
The girls had a good tournament finishing 7th out of 29 teams. April Steil, wrestling at 107 lbs was the top finisher for P/H taking 2nd place. Dominating her first 3 matches with pins inside of 1 minute, in the finals she was unable to overcome Mukwonago's Zofia Chitwood and had to settle for 2nd place. At 165 lbs, Kari Sunde-Hogy had pins in her first two matches before falling the semi's to #12 Natalia Jesberger of Delavan Darien. Sunde-Hogy bounced back to win her match for 3rd. At 235, Madison Shore took home her highest ever placement in a tourament by taking 3rd place. After winner her first bout and losing in the semi's, Madison muscled up in the 3rd place match and put her opponent to her back for a pin and the bronze. Celia Harrington at 100 lbs took 6th on the day going 3-2 with 3 pins.
Thursday, January 29th vs Cudahy, Reagan, St. Cats
Hosting the only home meet of the season, the P/H team had a good night going 3-0 and sweeping the dual meets. The seniors records on the night was 12-3. Facing Milwaukee Reagan first, the P/H boys handled them 54-24 before fighting off a pesky Cudahy team 44-36. In the finale P/H put the hammer down on a depleted St. Cats team by a score of 60-10. Seniors Jaime Urquizo(126), Laurence Miller(157), and Teddy Schwandt(165) each went 3-0 on the night. Damian Vaught went 2-1 and fellow senior Aaron Williams got his first ever varsity win with a pin. Also going 3-0 on the evening were juniors Zaiden Carley at 113, and Esgar Fuentes at 126. Galveston May(150), Robert Frausto(175), Jamir Melnik(190), and Patricio Ibarra(285) all went 2-1 as well to cap a successful night.
Friday, January 30 at Stark Girls Invite
The P/H girls had a very good night finishing 8th as a team out of 45. P/H place 3 girls in the top 5 of the tournament. Making it to the finals was Kari Sunde-Hogy at 165 lbs. After winning her first 3 matches by pin, she had a showdown with #13 ranked Serenity Silas of Westosha Central. Kari imposed her will until she put the hammer down in the 3rd period getting the fall to make it to the finals. In the finals she was beaten by #11 Hannah Behrndt of Sussex Hamilton. At 100 lbs, Celia Harrington was 4-1 on the day getting 2 pins and a tech fall to continue her strong junior campaign and finished in 5th place. At 107 lbs, April Steil lost her first match of the day but battled back to end up 4-1 on the day with 3 pins to take 5th place.
Friday, Feb. 6 at SEC Championships
Park/Horlick finished with 121 points, 1/2 point ahead of Case to place 4th at the Conference Tournament. P/H had 3 wrestlers make it to the finals before falling. At 113 lbs, Zaidon Carley made it to his first varsity tournament final before being downed by Indian Trail's Alex Martin to finish with silver. At 126 lbs, junior Esgar Fuentes avenged a loss to Brendan Diener from earlier in the year and won 10-4 in the semi's. In the finals he was over matched by Leo Fani of Franklin. At 165 lbs, Teddy Schwandt was up against Robbie Gallagher of Tremper in the rubber match for the season as they've split the first 2 matches of the year. In the end, Gallagher came out on top and Teddy had to settle for 2nd place. 3 other P/H wrestlers took 3rd on the night. At 132 lbs, Jaime Urquizo medaled going 2-1 on the night. At 157 lbs Laurence Miller bounced back from a semi-final loss to take 3rd, and Damian Vaughn at 215 lbs also finished the tournament on high note winning his final match.
Friday, Feb. 6 at SEC Championships
In the first ever SEC Tournament, P/H finished in 3rd place crowning 3 Champions. At 100 lb, Celia Harrington took 1st. At 185 lbs, Destiny Schuster also took 1st Place. At 165 lbs, Kari Sunde-Hogy took 1st and improving to 36-6 on the year with 25 pins after pinning Franklin's Elizabeth Ballou in the 1st period.
