Dec. 3rd vs Indian Trail(box score)

The Park wrestling team opened the season with a 60-15 loss to Indian Trails Academy at Park. The Panthers forfieted 4 weight classes on the night. Austin Decker, wrestling at 220 lbs and Eric Rodriguez, wrestling at 106 lbs both started their senior campaigns with forfiet victories for Park. The only other winner on the night was junior Abel Anderson, who came away with an 11-7 victory. 

 

Dec. 5th at Nicolet Knight Invite

Park was led by Austin Decker's 3rd place finish at the Nicolet Scramble. Decker, wrestling at 220 lbs., went 3-2 on the day. Cheryron Brumfield took 4th for the Panthers going 2-3 on the day while wrestling at 160 lbs. Also placing for Park was Eric Rodriguez at 106 lbs, who took 5th. Isaiah Dobbs went 3-2 on the day with 3 pins en route to a 7th place finish at 182 lbs. Mitchell Jackson(152 lbs) and Stevie Hamilton(170 lbs) both finished 8th. 

 

Dec. 10 at Oak Creek(box score)

It was a rough night for the Panthers as they were overwhelmed by the 7th ranked team in the state. Park gave up 6 forfeits and Oak Creek flexed their muscles early and often beating Park by a score of 76-6. The only victory on the night came by Eric Rodriguez at 106 lbs. who improved his record on the year to 4-3. 

 

Dec. 12 at Whitewater Invite

Eric Rodriguez took 1st place at the Whitewater Invite, the first Panther to win a tournament since the 2013-14 season. Rodriguez, wrestling at 106 lbs, went 4-0 on the day. In the finals he beat Collin Widmar of Kenosha Bradford 4-3 in the final. Rodriguez improved his record to 7-3 on the season. Also having a successful day was TJ McWhorter wrestling at 285 lbs. McWhorter went 4-1 on the day with 2 pins, placing 5th. Isaiah Dobbs also finished 5th in the tournament at 182 lbs. Dobbs went 3-2 on the day and finished with pins in all his victories. Dobbs improved to 6-5 on the year and has 6 pins for the year. Other Park wrestlers that placed at the tournament were Mitchell Jackson-4th at 152 lbs, Ethan Weaver-6th at 120 lbs, Steve Hamilton-7th at 170 lbs, Delontae Higgenbottom-7th at 195 lbs,  and Austin Decker-8th at 220 lbs.  Park took 8th place as a team at the 11 team invite. 

 

Dec. 17 at Tremper(box score)

Park held a brief lead against Tremper, but that was about all that went right on the night for the Panthers. Isaiah Dobbs led off the dual with a pin giving Park a 6-0 lead at 182 lbs. However, those were the only points Park would score on the evening as they were overmatched and overpowered by a strong Tremper team that has multiple state ranked wrestlers, 76-6. Dobbs improved to 7-5 on the year with 7 falls. 

 

Dec. 18/19 at West Allis Central E.H. Stech Invite

Eric Rodriguez led the Panthers at the Stech Invite with a 2nd place finish. Rodriguez had 2 falls on his way to the finals before losing to West Allis Central's Quentin Brown. Rodriguez improved his record to 11-5 on the year. No other Park wrestlers placed for Park. Cheryron Brumfield, Isaiah Dobbs, and Austin Decker each went 2-2 in the tournament before being eliminated. 

 

Dec. 29/30 at Oshkosh On The Water

The Panter only had 4 wrestlers at the 65 team Oshkosh On The Water tournament, held over 2 days at UW-Oshkosh. Eric Rodriguez led the way at 106 lbs going 4-2 at the tournament, improving his record to 15-7 on the year. Rodriguez fell one match short of placing at the tournament. Other wrestlers for Park were Ethan Weaver who went 1-2 at 120 lbs, Cheryron Brumfield went 3-2 at 160 lbs and improved his record to 7-9, and Austin Decker went 2-2 at 195 lbs and is now 10-10 on the year.  

 

Jan. 7 vs Case(box score)

Park battled Case in matchers that were wrestled, but fell 53-23. Park gave up 6 forfiets totaling 36 points. Of the 8 matches wrestled, the 2 rivals split 4-4. The night started at 132 where sophomore Gage Emmendorfer got his 1st career victory, pinning Case's David Finley. At 160 lb, Cheryron Brumfield improved his record to 8-9 on his senior campagin by getting a fall over Case's Jacob Tousey. Eric Rodriguez bumped up from 106 to 113 to wrestle and continued his winning ways in a dominating tech fall victory 24-7. Rodriguez improved to 16-7 on the year. Ethan Weaver picked up his first pin of the year at 120 lbs to score the final points of the night for the Panthers. 

 

Jan. 14 at Bradford(box score)

Park lost at Bradford against a much more seasoned team 71-3. Bradford flexed their muscles early and often as Park gave also gave up 5 forfiets. The only winner for Park on the night was Eric Rodriguez at 106 lbs. He improved to 17-7 on the year with a 10-5 win over Connor Widmar. 

 

Jan. 16 at Lake Geneva Badger Invite

Park competed at the Badger Invitational in Lake Geneva and took 11th place. Eric Rodriguez took 5th place 106 lbs and Austin Decker took 5th place at 195 lbs. Rodriguez picked up his 18th win on the year by tech falling his first opponent of the day. Decker upset the #4 seed in his first match of the day picking up his 11th win of the year and moved to championship bracket before finishing 5th. Cheryron Brumfield went 2-3 on the day at 160 lbs. 

 

Jan. 21 vs Franklin(box score)

Park couldn't hold on as Franking won the SEC Dual by a score of 37-34. Eric Rodriguez dominated his match at 106 lb to improve to 19-11 on the year. He was ahead of his opponent 19-6 when he put him on his back and pinned him. Park followed with victories at 120 lbs and 126 lbs as Ethan Weaver and Gage Emmendorfer each notching wins. After a double forfeit at 132 and a Panther loss at 138, Abel Anderson notched a quick pin at 145 lbs to get Park back on the board and a 24-15 lead. At 160, Cheryron Brumfield was in a tight match when he turned his opponent to also get a pin and give Park another 6 points making the score 30-21 in favor of Park. Isaiah Dobbs followed that up with a 16-5 major decision at 170 lbs, improving his record to 12-13 on the year and extending the Panther lead to 34-21. That would be the final win for the Panthers on the night as Park lost the final 3 weights of the match. 

 

Jan. 28 vs Horlick(box score)

Lack of numbers doomed the Panthers in their final dual meet of the season vs crosstown rival Horlick. Wrestling with only 9 wrestlers, Park fell to Horlick 48-29. After winning each dual against Horlick from the 2006-07 season through the 2011-12 season, Park has lost their last 3 against the Rebels. The teams did not wrestle in the 2014-15 because of weather conflicts. The match started at 152, where Mitchell Jackson jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold on and lost 7-6. At 160, Cheryron Brumfield continued his late season surge and picked up his 4th pin of the season, evening his record at 12-12. Park forfeited 170 and 182, and received forfiets at 195, 220, and 285. At 106, Eric Rodriguez dominated Devin Hirshfield with a 19-3 technical fall to improve to 20-11 overall and 6-1 in the SEC. Park forfieted 113. At 120, Ethan Weaver jumped out to quick lead but couldn't hold the pace and lost a decision 17-12. After a victory for Horlick at 126, Park fofeited 132 and 138. At 145 Abel Anderson lost to Horlick's undefeated Sher Umar. 

 

Feb. 6 at SEC Tournament

Park finish 8th at the SEC Tournament. Leading the way for the Panthers as he has all season was Eric Rodriguez at 106 lbs. Eric was 2-1 on the day and finished in 2nd place. In his first match of the day he was dominating in his match 12-5 when his opponent from Oak Creek got hurt and had to default out of the match. Eric notched his 7th pin of the season in the semi's against Collin Widmar for his 22nd victory of the year. Rodriguez has beaten Widmar in all three match ups they've had this season. In the finals, Mason French of Tremper was too much to overcome and Eric lost a 13-3 decision. At 120 lbs, Ethan Weaver finished in 5th place, defeating Avry Nichols of Tremper 8-6 in the 5th place match, avenging a loss to Nichols in the 1st round of the tournament. At 145 lbs, junior Abel Anderson earned a hard fought victory over Brandon Cruz of Case in the 5th place match 4-3. 

 

Feb. 13 at Regionals

Park advanced 4 wrestlers to Sectional competetion next week. As a team, Park placed 6th in the Regional tournament, ahead of Case and Horlick .Taking 2nd for Park was Eric Rodriguez at 106 lbs and Austin Decker at 195 lbs. Finishing 3rd were Jacob Rodriguez at 138 lbs and Cheryron Brumfield at 160 lbs. Finishing in 5th place and will be alternates were Ethan Weaver at 120 lbs and Abel Anderson at 145 lbs. Rodriguez(24-13) went 2 -1 on the day opening up with a 24-7 technical fall and followed that up with a 9-4 semi-final win over Collin Widmar of Bradford, the 4th time he's beaten him this year. In the finals, Rodriguez fell again to his nemesis Mason French of Tremper, 8-1. Austin Decker(15-17) won his first match of the day 6-3 before falling in the semi-finals. In the 3rd place match he beat Ried McNeil of Westosha Central 10-5 forcing a wrestleback for 2nd place. In the 2nd place match controlled Zach Lindahl of Indian Trail and scored a late takedown to secure the victory winning 8-5. Jacob Rodriguez(2-4) won his first match of the day before losing in the semi's. He then scored another fall in the 3rd place match agains Union Grove's Marco Griego. Jacob forced a wrestleback for 2nd but lost to Austin Kukla of Westosha Central 8-4 and finished in 3rd place. Cheryron Brumfield(14-13) went 2-1 on the day. He won his first round match by pin before losing in the semi's. In the 3rd place match he pinned Trempers Michael Merz to secure 3rd place. Ethan Weaver lost his first match of the day, but won his next 2, one of them by fall to finish in 5th place. Mitchell picked up a pin on the day earning his 2nd victory of the season. 

 

 

Feb. 20 at Sectionals

Park is back at the State Tournament! After a 2 year hiatus, Eric Rodriguez became Park's first State Qualifier since Cavontate Klyce in 2013. Eric qualified at 106 lbs, where he took 2nd place in the Sectional. He lost in the finals against nemesis Mason French of Tremper, but in the 2nd place wrestleback he took control of the match and dominated Elijah Heller of South Milwaukee with a 15-6 decision. The issue was never in doubt as Eric scored the first takedown of the match and continued the assault until the final whistle. Eric won his first match of the day 16-8 after a slow start. In the semi-finals against Andrew Korloly of Westosha Central, Eric was in control 7-5 with time running down and was taken down. As both wrestlers went out of bounds, the score was tied 7-7 on the restart. Right off the whistle Eric began to go to work and escaped as time expired to give him the 8-7 victory! Eric heads to the State Tournament with a 27-14 record. 

 

 

Feb 25-27 WIAA State Tournament

Eric Rodriguez's season came to an end in the 1st round of the State Individual Tournament. Eric was pinned by West Bend West wrestler Justin Lor in 5:01. Lor was a more experienced wrestler and 41-3 on the season. Lor went on to get beat by Jon Bailey, thus eliminating Eric from the tournament. Eric ends his senior year with a 27-15 record. It was only his 2nd year of wrestling. He had over 100 takesdowns and 7 falls on the year. Great season Eric!!
